The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is the most comprehensive of all international human rights legal instruments. It took ten years to draft this Convention. It was adopted by the General Assembly into International Law on 20th November 1989 and was ratified by all 191 countries except two – Somalia and U.S.A. India ratified the Convention in December 1992. The Convention has 54 Articles and 2 Protocols. The Civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights it contains, apply to all children everywhere and all the time.
