Pastor threatened in Haveri

On August 7 in Herekeru, Haveri, a group of Hindu extremists allegedly from the Bajrang Dal attacked a pastor and threatened to beat him up if he continues his ministry in the area.

EFI correspondent Rev. Noel Kotain reported that about 25 Hindu extremists attacked Pastor Ajit Kumar of Every Home Crusade, accused him of forceful conversion, and threatened to beat him up if he continues with his ministry.

At about 11 a.m., the extremists went to the pastor house and started verbally abusing him. They accused the pastor of forceful and warned him not to conduct worship meeting on Sunday (August 10) or face serious consequence.

The pastor lodged a police complaint at Herekeru police station. A case was registered against the attackers. The church opened on Sunday (August 10) under police protection. No arrests had been made at press time.

Kindly pray for Pastor Ajit Kumar and his church.

Pastor, believer arrested in Tumkur

Karnataka police detained two Christians for distributing pamphlets and conducting medical camp on 4th August 2009 at Mosarukunte village, Tumkur district.

Rev. Noel Kotain reported that Pastor M Shivanna and one believer identified as Vijay Kumar and some doctors went to Mosarukunte village to conduct a medical camp when the Hindu extremists along with the village head objected to their activity claiming that they had not obtained prior permission to conduct the medical programme.

Later, the extremists lodged a police complaint claiming that the Christians were distributing pamphlets to forcefully convert people into Christianity.

The police arrested pastor M Shivanna and Kumar under section 109 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) for ‘security for good behaviour from suspected persons’. The Christians were released on bail.

Persecution of Christians in Karnataka have become a common occurrence. The state is ruled by the BJP, which came to power for the first time in the state in alliance with a regional party, the Janata Dal Secular, in February 2006. In May 2008, it won the state assembly elections and became the one-party ruler of the state.

Verse of the Day

Psalm 18:1-2
“[The LORD Praised for Giving Deliverance.] For the choir director. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said, “I love You, O LORD, my strength.” The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
