Pastor Killed in Madhya Pradesh

EFI mourns the death of a young pastor and appeals to the state authorities to take appropriate action against the attackers which led to the tragic dead of the Christian.

Masking their faces, armed Hindu extremists from the Bajrang Dal attacked the Christian four days crusade on April 17 in Betul, Madhya Pradesh.

Our correspondent Akhilesh Edgar reported that about 10 Hindu extremists forced their way into the crusade amid the prayer meeting at 8:30 p.m., broke glasses of vehicles, electrical lights, furniture and mercilessly beat the Christians with their lathis (Sticks).

The crusade was organised by Evangelical Lutheran Church from 15-17 April which was attended by about 400 Christians from the neighbouring areas.

The attackers disrupted the meeting and people in fright started running off in different directions to escape the attack including Pastor Amit Gilbert, reported a participant Pastor Abhisek John.

After realizing that Pastor Amit Gilbert was lost, a search team was formed and they found his dead body in the well. A large section of area Christians believes that Gilbert was forcefully threw into the well.

Amit Gilbert recently completed his Master of Divinity (M. Div) from Central India Theological Seminary, Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh. His funeral took place in his home town Raipur .

EFI strongly condemns the attacked which grossly violates the constitution rights guarantees under Article 25 of the Freedom of Faith.

Pray for India which witnesses many menacing anti- Christian violence in Madhya Pradesh and other states as well.

Verse of the Day

Psalm 18:1-2
“[The LORD Praised for Giving Deliverance.] For the choir director. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said, “I love You, O LORD, my strength.” The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
